Through teaching Mathematics, we aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to confidently use Mathematics in the real world. These include logical reasoning, problem solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways.
The children develop their knowledge and understanding of mathematics through practical activity, exploration and discussion. They focus on various aspects of number, shape, space and measures, and data handling. Children are taught to identify mathematical relationships, apply mental skills with speed and accuracy, and acquire an ability to apply mathematical skills in everyday practical situations.
Children are able to use concrete, abstract and pictorial methods to facilitate their learning. Pupils have many opportunities to apply their knowledge and understanding of Mathematics in other curriculum areas.
We have an embedded approach to mastery in Mathematics and have followed methods used in Singapore as a basis for this. We follow the White Rose Maths Hub to help with the planning and implementation of our teaching sequences.
